Berean Baptist Church is led by faithful pastors and church staff. We are a family-oriented church in Port Charlotte, Florida that believes in the power of sharing the Word of God. We are proud to introduce our pastors and the other officers of our church!

Our Pastors and Church Staff

Senior Pastor: Fred Cowardin

Fred has been the senior pastor at Berean Baptist Church since 2007. Fred earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible studies from Ouachita Baptist University, a school with 130 years of history in “tradition and strong spiritual foundation.”

Pastor Fred and his wife, Betty, have been married for more than 65 years. Betty was a teacher in a Christian school for 32 years, teaching and sharing the gospel with our youth.

Associate Pastor: Aaron Mitchell

Aaron has been a member of Berean Baptist Church since 2014 and has been the Associate Pastor since 2018. He teaches every

Wednesday night and is our Sunday School teacher.

Aaron is a husband, father, Marine and Local Business owner.

Treasurer: Bob Shelenberger

Bob has been a member of Berean Baptist Church since 2012 and has faithfully served the Lord for many years. He would love to see new members of our church family.

Mission Director: Daniel Carroll

Daniel has been a member of our church since 2018 and has been the missionary chairman since April 2019. It is Dan’s hope for our mission field to grow so that the Gospel of Jesus reaches the whole world. He believes what the former mission director, Bob Shelenberger, always said, “If we take care of our missionaries, God will take care of Berean Baptist Church.”

Music Director: Harry Willax

Harry has been a member of Berean Baptist Church since 1997 and has been the Music Director since 2004. He loves to sing the old songs of faith and believes that nothing replaces a hymnal in the hands of the congregation. When I asked him why he became the Music Director, Harry simply said, "The Lord Gave me the ability."

Associate Music Director: Jan Linderman

Jan Attended Tennessee Temple University, where he was in the Pastoral studies program. He has been a youth pastor and associate pastor in both Michigan and Illinois. Jan and his wife Marilyn joined Berean Baptist in 2007. He became the Associate Music Director in 2019.

Pianist: Bob Otherther

Bob has been a member of Berean Baptist Church since 1999 and has been our Pianist since 2004.
